Carts

Carts that know the real total — and come back when buyers leave.

Native carts with shipping, tax, and discounts calculated server-side, browser-safe cart sessions, mixed one-time and subscription carts, and recovery emails.

The cart is where the price is decided

A Throttle cart holds the line items, addresses, shipping choice, discount, and tax, and recalculates them on the server every time something changes. Before payment, the totals are locked, so the amount the buyer sees is the amount that’s charged — and finalizing turns the cart into an order with nothing re-entered.

No backend? Still safe.

Cart sessions let a static or JAMstack site run a cart straight from the browser. The browser gets an id that can touch that one cart and nothing else, restricted to your allowed origins — no secret key in the page. The React hook keeps the cart across reloads, and there’s a hosted cart page if you’d rather not build one.

One-time and recurring, in one cart

Sell a starter kit and a monthly refill in the same checkout. A cart can hold one-time items alongside up to ten subscriptions, with one payment, one shipping fee, and one order linked to every subscription it starts.

Bring them back

  • An hourly sweep marks carts abandoned after an idle time you choose — 15 minutes to 90 days, 24 hours by default.
  • Each abandoned cart fires a cart.abandoned webhook and sends the buyer one recovery email (respecting opt-outs).
  • The recovery link is single-use, lasts 30 days, and drops the buyer straight back into checkout with their cart intact.
  • The dashboard shows how many carts were abandoned, what they were worth, and how many recovery emails went out.

Want a multi-step sequence instead? Send cart.abandoned to Klaviyo.

Signed-in buyers keep their cart

When a guest signs in, the cart they started is claimed by their account rather than lost.

Good to know

  • Throttle doesn’t store a product catalog — line items come from your own product data.
  • Carts that live in a connected commerce platform follow that platform’s lifecycle and aren’t swept.
