Throttle + Shippo
Show live Shippo carrier rates at Throttle checkout: connect an API token, set your ship-from address, and buyers pick from real carrier services.
What the integration does
With Shippo connected, the shipping options a buyer sees at cart and checkout are live rates from the carriers enabled in your Shippo account. Each option shows the carrier and service, the price, and Shippo’s delivery estimate in days, and the one the buyer picks is priced onto the order.
Rates are requested with your ship-from address, the buyer’s destination, and the order’s total weight — summed from each line item’s weight and quantity.
Setting it up
- Open Shipping & Tax → Carriers and add Shippo.
- Paste a Shippo API token — a
shippo_test_token for testing, ashippo_live_one for real rates. Throttle checks it by listing your carrier accounts before saving. - Set your ship-from address in shipping settings.
- Switch the application’s shipping mode to use the connected provider.
Each workspace environment keeps its own connection, so test and production can use different tokens.
If Shippo doesn’t answer
Shipping fallback is lenient by default: if Shippo errors or takes longer than five seconds, checkout falls back to the shipping rates you’ve configured in Throttle and flags the fallback, so a carrier outage never blocks a sale. You can make it strict instead. Five consecutive failures mark the connection unhealthy and alert your admins.
Good to know
- Rates only. Labels, tracking, and returns stay in Shippo or your fulfillment tool — for warehouse order handoff, see ShipStation.
- Rates are quoted on one standard parcel using the order’s total weight; per-item dimensions aren’t sent yet. Pass weights on your line items or every order quotes at 1 unit.
- If no carriers are enabled in Shippo, buyers see no options — that’s treated as an answer, not an outage.
